Roblox’s latest quarterly results showed mixed performance, with daily active users and engagement both declining year over year despite the popularity of games such as You Can Steal an Egg.
The platform reported 138 million daily active users, a 9% decrease from the same period a year earlier and well below the company’s estimate of 145 million. Users spent 34 billion hours engaged during the quarter, beating expectations but falling 15% year over year. Roblox attributed the decline in hours to the unusually strong growth recorded during the previous year.
To address the weaker demand, Roblox plans to increase its investment in generative AI tools for game creation. The company said that more than 80% of its top 100 games during the quarter were made using AI tools.
Roblox’s approach to AI also drew scrutiny after the company confirmed to Game Developer that an AI agent had collected 145.5 GB of 3D assets from Open3DLab, including adult content. A spokesperson described the incident as a mistake and said the material would not be used for future AI training.
Founder and CEO David Baszucki continued to express confidence in the technology during comments to investors, arguing that AI is changing the gaming industry and substantially increasing the speed at which content can be produced.
